So I've been getting ready to move back east to attend an undisclosed college (give you a hint: it isn't in Boston or NYC, nor in the South...good luck guessing!) 106.9FM has been down for about three months (more info at www.1069fm.org) and those wacky punks at FRSD are back on the air. Speaking of which, they're having a fundrasing show on Dec. 3rd down at the Kava Lounge, to be followed by a show at UCSD's Che Cafe on the 10th. 106.9 is having a benefit at Sparky's in North Park on the 15th. I know I'll attend the FRSD shows, but I have my doubts about the show on the 15th because I'm still pissed at radioActive, and I just know they'll be there in scads.

I'm looking for another outlet to do a show, which would be similar in content to "The Underground Show" but have a different name. I have decided to keep the blog, however. I apologize to my listeners, all two of you, for having the show end so abruptly. As the Prisoner always said (with an ironic smirk on his lips and a toss of his hand):

Because it's October I'll be running episodes of Arch Obler's ancient "Lights Out" radio show during the second hour of the show. Because of a special event I won't be able to broadcast on the Friday before Halloween, so I will do a show either on Halloween night or the night before. Also, be prepared for more mind-numbing interviews with people like Dinesh D`Souza (good argument fodder there), Iraqi insurgent Sheik N'Bakk, Chalmers Johnson (maybe), and others.
With any luck it will be the strangest month we've ever had.

There's not much to say; I was just too damn lazy to update the blog after the radioActive email calendar was given up on sometime around mid-August. I had built a rhythm; come up with a show on Sunday, email it to the calendar, then write some gibberish in the blog. Now the thing's back, so the blogwork reappears.

It may just be a bunch of clips stolen from earthstation1.com, or a scathing indictment of how far KGB's morning show has fallen in 15 years, or just...nothing. Two hours of dead air. To the people who just wander in to the radioActive website or find 106.9FM by luck, and have been hearing my show for the last two weeks, I just can't apologize (though certain people at the station would probably like me to.) The mission of "The Underground Show" is to shock people into thinking, and sometimes the things I present break the "Points of Unity" the station is built around. Take, fer'instance the "Sheik tape" I ran two weeks ago. The track consists of an over-the-top member of the Church of the SubGenius (the titular Sheik) ranting about the death of punk legend G.G. Allen on the Philadelphia airwaves. Shocking, weird, horrendous stuff, but stuff that makes us ask the question: how far is too far, and does the first ammendment protect speech that breaks the FCC's broadcasting guidelines? It could have been worse: I wanted to run the Jonestown mass-suicide tape, but the equipment denied that to me.

Holy sweet mothering Jesus, it's Catch-22 squared; the mayor ditches us, and now the guy they make "temp mayor" is barred from the office six seconds after he is put in. On top of that, there are only six people left on the City Council, which means another election after they elect Donna Frye to the mayor's office. The next few years should be fun.

...just isn't worth it. Since I went on hiatus, the weeks have been less stress-free, but there isn't anything to cap Friday with, aside from drinking at various San Diego county watering holes and hitting on other guys' girlfriends. The Iraqi insurgency (which the Iraqis call "the mujaheddin" [holy warriors] - a bad sign) is getting better and better while the puppet forces run away at the first shot (check out "Building Iraq's Army: Mission Improbable" at www.washingtonpost.com) the Muj fires in it's direction. Speaking of the "Iraqi National Guard", most of them admitted to the WaPo hack that they're only in it for the $300 to $400 they earn a month. That's a buck-seven an hour! Our fucking no-stripers make at least $6/hr.! Why isn't Rumsfeld behind bars?

...(frm. Hopi; literal meaning, "Life as War") If you heard the beginning of my last broadcast, June is the "Month of Decision", in which I will decide whether or not to stay with Radioactive. I'm pretty much split 50/50 right now; I've been given an invitation to join another station, but then I like the Radioactive set-up, even though there isn't a bathroom. Why I have been forced to go on hiatus and make this choice has nothing to do with the show, but things concerning the Radioactive collective and certain members, things I think are best left unsaid. However, I will announce whether or not I am coming back on this blog and on the air the first Tuesday of July. To all my listeners, I thank you for your willingness to hear what I have to say.

Things are totally out of joint both for me, RASD, and the nation. I can't get my mystery guest to call back, eight US soldiers got killed in Iraq in less than three days (while scores of Iraqi cops/grunts get whacked every time I turn on NPR), and I really think I'm on the thinnest ice possible with radioActive radio. Something has to change, but I don't know how. But moving on to more pleasant topics, this Saturday (yes I wrote Friday, forgetting that Critical Mass RN happens this Friday from 6-10 maybe) we will be shooting the bull on the life and meaning of Saddam Hussein al Tikriti, aka "The Butcher of Baghdad" or "the next Sears catalogue underwear model", maybe the mystery guest (don't wait for it), some more (yes, more!) If you are wondering what happened last week, the short story is that I came in, tried to use our computer's CD/DVD drive, found it didn't work, then had to drive to my shack and bring over MY DVD player and a TV, and that was why the show got off the ground around 10pm. The long story could be good fodder for a novel: after discovering that the player didn't work, I went back to my abode (cursing all the way), brought in the equipment, then locked myself out of the toolshed-on-wheels we call a studio because I was in such a Goddamned rush. Only thanks to a very skinny neighbor was I able to get in, only to find that there were no spare outlets. Bellowing curses all the way back to my house, I stole some extension cords, then drove back. BTW, thanks to the skinny neighbor, and ten demerits to Mr. Blank for not coming over to help. You know who you are. Meanwhile, the real aggravation was that nobody called up asking "What the hell is this?" or "You're a Nazi!" while four hours of Syberberg's film played. Am I just talking to myself and (possibly) Dutch shortwave pirates?

I screwed up and claimed that the final "Underground Show" for April will be on Friday and not Saturday thanks to drunkeness while writing the email blurb Sunday afternoon. DAMN YOU SOL CERVEZA, DAMN YOU TO HELL! Anyway, the entire April 30th show will be blown on H.J. Syberberg's seven hour opus "Hitler, ein Film aus Deutchland", made in 1977 for West German TV and released here theatrically as "Our Hitler" in 1980. (Thank you Francis Ford Coppela!) The movie is not hard to find if you are a film buff, but all copies in the US are illegal because Syberberg never took out rights on the film in America (you can get it in France, Britain, and Germany.) Aside from that, I'm not saying anything else about the picture until I'm on the air. So catch us this SATURDAY from 7-9pm.

The last two weeks of April

...Hopefully people can now make comments because I changed those settings...anyway this week on the show I will run over the career and influence of Leo Strauss, the guy who gave Paul Wolfowitz and Donald Rumsfeld all those interesting ideas. Also, THE MONTH OF NAZIS AND TAXATION slowly winds down first this week by looking at the "future" of fascism on this planet, and the odd world of Nazi occultism. Good God Almighty was last week a kick-ass show! I thought I had been punked, AND THEN THEY CAME, SHINING WITH THE HOLY LIGHT OF RADIO PIRACY and booze. Two hours! Not even Bob Ugly gave me two hours! And you can hear it on radio.indymedia.org! However, to get back down to Earth, 96.9's beating 106.9 in the signal strength department - they're almost as loud as 94.9. I'm guessing that they bought a new amplifier, or they finally decided to turn their equipment to "11", but gradually, so nobody really noticed. Meanwhile, the atmosphere is fouling up the 106.9 signal in Chula Vista and the border area. Even though I, like the rest of the people at Radioactive, have nothing to do with the transmitter group (as far as I know), I hope they can somehow boost their power, either by getting a better transmitter, or by setting up relay transmitters. Not that I'm giving them ideas...

All I can say about last week is that Ayn Rand and her Capitalist Commandos made for horrible radio, but some people liked the Spongemonkeys at the end. Speaking of the horrible, I just saw that South Korean epic "Tae Guk Gi." Imagine an Asian "Saving Private Ryan" (with all the gore and a similar framing device) but set during the now totally-forgotten Korean War, and you've nailed it. However, seeing as how the last Korean War movie was the Moonie-produced "Inchon!" (with Sir Lawrence Olivier as a waxwork figure of Gerneral MacArthur), it isn't that bad. However, that score always seems to be on the brink of morphing into "Bridge over Troubled Water."
